Are you anxious about the huge step that your K2 child will be taking in his/her educational journey next year?
It may seem as though you’re dealing with a very long checklist of things to prepare your child for his/her primary school years, but the first thing to tackle would be the primary one registration.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and safe distancing measures put in place by the Government, the P1 registration will be done differently this year. Instead of having the option of submitting your registration online or in-person at the school of choice, the 2020 P1 registration will be done online at all phases.
Before taking note of the key dates for all phases, here are some things you should note:
- You can register your child in a phase as long as you fulfil at least one of the requirements.
- You can only register your child in one school at any one phase.
- If you have submitted your online application and need to make amendments during the same phase, you’d need to submit a new application form. MOE will take your latest online application into consideration.
- If, upon securing a P1 place for your child in a previous phase, you decide to register at another school, you’d need to withdraw your place from the accepted school before registering in another school.

Starting this year, there will be a cap on the intake of Permanent Resident (PR) children at 10 primary schools in Singapore. According to MOE, this is to prevent any concentration of PR children in our primary schools, so as to provide a more conducive environment to encourage interaction between Singapore citizen and PR children, and to facilitate the integration of PR children into Singapore.
Phase 2C Supplementary
For children who have not yet registered at a primary school after Phase 2C.
Registration Dates: 19 to 20 August 2020 (via P1-IS) or 20 to 21 August 2020 (via online form)

Result: 31 August 2020
You can register at this phase should be done either through the Primary One Internet System (P1-IS) or the online form.
Do note that registration is not based on a first-come, first-served basis. Your registration won’t be prioritised even if you register at the earliest time, be it through P1-IS or the online registration form.
Phase 3
For international students who would like to register for primary one at our local schools.
If your child is applying as an international student, he/she can only register at Phase 3, after all Singapore citizens and Permanent Resident children have been allocated a place under the earlier phases of the P1 Registration Exercise.
There will be a two-step process that you would need to take:
1. Submit an online ‘Indication of Interest’ form
This can be done through the MOE P1 website from 2 to 8 June 2020. If you missed the deadline on 8 June 2020, you won’t be able to register during Phase 3 of the P1 Registration 2020.
You may check this website for the list of documents required.
2. Receive your offer email and register at the designated school
MOE will notify you via email in October 2020 as to whether your child can be offered a P1 place in a primary school in Singapore. If a place is offered, you will be informed of how to register at the school.
Things to note about applying in Phase 3
- Your submission of an indication of interest is not considered a registration. You would need to wait for MOE’s email in October 2020 to get the final outcome.
- Admission at this phase is not guaranteed, as priority is given to Singapore citizens and Permanent Residents children.
- Should you miss the submission deadline to indicate your interest, you won’t be able to proceed with the P1 Registration 2020 process and all appeals will not be considered. In the event of this happening or if your child is not offered a place in a local primary school, you would need to consider alternatives such as private or international schools.
- Posting results are final and appeals will not be considered. Primary schools will also not accept walk-in applications for admissions or transfers.
